Drawing - Seeing as an Artist

In the 4 lessons of this 90-minute module Sonia Pullins explains how to “see” like an artist, offering instruction in creating more realistic artwork. She hosts exercises to observe and record line, space, value, and texture.

In this gif, the artist mimics various textures with a pencil.

Materials
Needed

  • drawing paper

  • eraser

  • hard lead drawing pencil (2H or HB)

  • soft lead drawing pencil (B or 2B)

  • very soft lead drawing pencil (4B or 6B)

  • blending stump/stick

  • optional: ruler

  • reference & practice pages linked with individual lessons

Lesson 1.
5 Elements of Shape
