Stop Motion Animation

The 5 lessons of this 35-minute module with Jeffrey Hole invite you to consider the possibilities for stop motion film making within your instruction.

Materials
Needed

  • stop motion app (top recommendation is Stop Motion Studio)

  • clay/playdough

  • optional: 1-2 lamps to brighten workspace

Lessons

Lesson 1. Overview

[length 3:06] Jeff Hole gives a quick tour through the methods and reasons for using stop motion animation with all ages of students.

Lesson 2. 
Student Introduction

[length 7:10] Jeff Hole presents a way to introduce stop motion animation to students. He provides teacher tips while walking you through the PowerPoint slides that he uses with students.

Lesson 3.
App Advice

[length 7:27] Jeff Hole shows how to capture images for a stop motion video. 

Lesson 4.
Adding Simple Sound

[length 6:56] Jeff Hole demonstrates adding simple sounds to a short stop motion video. He shows how to add recurring background sound as well as special sound effects.

Lesson 5.
Final Products

[length 9:31] Jeff Hole discusses process steps which will support student success in classroom stop motion animation projects. He gives tips for materials and tasks, and shares PowerPoint slides which can be used with students.
